“Three-dimensional Tomographic Studies Supporting Physically Based Analysis, Modelling and Control of Advanced Li-ion Battery Systems”
The main goal of my research project consists in the micro-scale characterization of LiFePO4 (LFP) and Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) electrode architectures by Atom Probe Tomography, FIB-SEM and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The essential aspect of this research is to develop fundamental understanding of Li-ion batteries as important approach to assure safety and support the development of a new Navy-specific battery technology.

“A new flexible all solid-state battery”
Although Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are considered one of the best battery technologies in the electric vehicles market, interest toward lithium metal batteries (LBs) is constantly increasing, because of their higher energy density. However, commercialization of LBs with lithium metal anodes and liquid electrolyte solutions has never taken off. This is explained by the poor cyclability of the Li metal anode, and its high risk of dendrite formation with consequent concern for safety.
The aim of this work is to improve battery safety by synthesizing a highly conductive solid electrolyte and developing a new architecture which would reduce the large impedance at the electrode-electrolyte interface.
